A Young Gentleman's Irresponsible And Hazardous Drinking Leads To A DUI And Time In The City Jail

Richard had a particularly difficult time keeping a job. In fact, due to his laziness and lack of incentive, he was without a job far more often than he was in work. And when he did find a job, he had a particularly hard time getting to work when his shift began, he often received less than positive performance appraisals, and he called off sick so frequently that he commonly got fired two or three weeks after he started working.

Obviously, one of the effects of Richard's appalling employment record was the fact that he was without much money from day-to-day. Despite Richard's disgraceful work record and financial laxity, however, in some way he managed to drink in an abusive and excessive manner on a daily basis.

So it came as no big jolt when Richard got arrested for a fifth DUI. When he went before the court, the magistrate explained to Richard that his alcohol-related actions was terrible and, as a result, he was going to sentence Richard to serve eight months in the local jail.

During his time while locked up in jail, Richard was expected to learn more about alcoholism facts such as alcohol related outcomes and alcohol deaths, about the harmful effects of abusive drinking, and he was expected to get alcohol treatment. The judge stressed the fact that unless Richard gets quality alcohol therapy and discovers how to live an alcohol-free life, he will quite possibly be spending more than a short amount of time in the local jail.

Richard said that he understood what the judge was pronouncing but he still felt that placement in the city jail was not the most realistic verdict. The magistrate saw things in an entirely different way and proclaimed that it was his duty to keep alcohol addicted individuals off the streets who drive under the influence and who get one or more DUIs. To give credibility to this statement, the judge articulated some venerable, comprehensively researched alcohol abuse and alcoholism facts and statistics that stressed some of the adverse results that are related to irresponsible drinking such as alcohol related deaths.

Although Richard grasped the fact that he drank in an abusive and hazardous manner, he never believed that he was alcohol dependent. So it was quite a shock when Richard began suffering from chronic alcoholism symptoms and alcohol withdrawal symptoms about seven-and-a-half after getting locked up in jail.

To manage his alcohol withdrawals in a harm free manner, Richard was taken by ambulance to a drug and alcohol rehabilitation hospital for alcohol detox and then returned to jail. While behind bars Richard received alcohol treatment but because he got this rehabilitation as something that was imposed upon him, he failed to take ownership of his hazardous drinking.

When his time in the local jail was completed, the judge stated to Richard that he would be under stringent scrutiny and would be required to take periodic random breath alcohol tests. After hearing how Richard neglected to take ownership of his drinking situation and how he halfheartedly followed the therapy protocol while in the local jail, the magistrate knew that it was just a matter of time before he would be seeing Richard once again in court about his abusive drinking behavior.

As the judge thought about Richard's circumstance, he couldn't help but think about how some individuals never figure things out and learn how to live in a responsible and effective manner.
